Proxima Fusion

Founded as the first spin-out from the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics, Proxima builds on the record-breaking Wendelstein 7-X experiment, combining simulation-driven engineering with high-temperature superconducting magnets to design stellarators capable of stable, continuous fusion reactions. The company is currently building Alpha, a net-energy demonstrator near Munich developed with the Free State of Bavaria, RWE, and the Max Planck Institute, as the critical step toward Stellaris, the world’s first commercial stellarator fusion power plant, planned for the RWE site in Gundremmingen, Bavaria. With a team drawn from institutions including MIT, SpaceX, Tesla, and Google, Proxima is positioning Europe to lead the global race to commercial fusion.
