Uluu named a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer for 2026
We’re thrilled to share that our portfolio company Uluu has been selected as one of the World Economic Forum’s Technology Pioneers for 2026, joining a global community of companies recognised for cutting-edge technologies addressing the world’s most pressing challenges.
The recognition comes at an exciting moment in Uluu’s scale-up. Since BPI first invested in 2023 and then led Uluu’s $16 million Series A round in October 2025, the company has been moving rapidly: scaling beyond technical validation and into larger customer pilots, expanded production, and early commercial supply of its seaweed-based PHA materials.
Uluu’s technology converts farmed seaweed into a natural polymer that performs like conventional plastic, while being microplastic-free, home compostable, and marine biodegradable. At commercial scale, the process has the potential to sequester and avoid up to ~5kg of CO₂ equivalent for every kilogram of material produced.
“The WEF recognition places Uluu among a select group of innovators shaping industries and reimagining how materials can be made. As a longtime partner, we’re proud to see that vision earn global acknowledgment. We look forward to supporting the team by connecting them with potential clients in Europe and the Middle East and to welcoming Julia and Michael back at one of our DLD conferences soon again,” says Christian Teichmann, CEO of Burda Principal Investments and Supervisory Board Member at Uluu.
