BPI backs leading second-hand bike marketplace Buycycle to accelerate category expansion

Burda Principal Investments (BPI) is excited to share our investment in Buycycle, the leading global second-hand marketplace for premium and performance bikes. The company is redefining the way people buy and sell high-quality bikes across Europe and the US. With growing consumer demand for affordable, sustainable alternatives and increasing interest in high-end cycling, Buycycle’s platform offers a seamless and trusted solution for both private and commercial sellers and buyers. From road and gravel to mountain bikes, the company connects cycling enthusiasts through a safe, end-to-end transaction experience – including secure payments and global logistics.

A rapidly growing premium resale platform

Founded in 2021 by Theo Golditchuk and Jonas Jäger, Buycycle was born out of their personal frustration with the fragmented and untrustworthy options in the second-hand bike market. The company has rapidly expanded to over 30 markets, establishing itself as the leading marketplace for premium bike resale. Recently, the company has successfully launched its first vertical extensions, adding components and accessories to the platform.

“Buycycle fits squarely into our thesis of investing in next-generation marketplaces that solve structural inefficiencies and provide exceptional user experience. The team has demonstrated deep market understanding and strong execution, and we’re excited to support them as they scale across markets and additional categories,” says Friedrich von Wulffen, Principal at BPI.

Going forward, Buycycle plans to broaden its focus beyond premium performance bikes, expanding into additional bike categories as well as other high-end sports segments.

With Buycycle, we’re building the go-to second-hand platform for premium sports goods,” says Theo Golditchuk, CEO and co-founder of Buycycle. “We’re making it easier, safer, and more transparent for people to buy and sell bikes online. This new funding allows us to grow our presence, invest in our technology, and bring our service to more cyclists worldwide.”

Supporting sustainable consumer trends

Buycycle is part of a broader shift toward recommerce and circular consumption, especially in high-value categories like bikes. By offering verified listings, expert support, and integrated logistics, Buycycle not only increases trust in second-hand transactions but also extends the lifecycle of premium products – helping to reduce waste and carbon emissions in the consumer goods sector.

This funding will enable Buycycle to accelerate product development, enhance customer experience, and expand into further categories.

We’re proud to back Buycycle on their journey and look forward to supporting the team as they ride into the next chapter of growth.
