Martin Weiss joined Burda in 2015 and heads Burda Principal Investments, addressing global investment opportunities in the consumer internet sector. Previously Martin was Executive Vice President Strategy and Corporate Development at international telecommunications and media company Millicom. Here, he was responsible for expanding and transforming the company’s digital activities in Latin America, the USA and Africa. Martin was previously Founding Partner at management consulting company Solon and ran their London office from 2008 to 2013. His work focused on developing digital growth strategies for international media companies and supporting leading private equity companies in mergers & acquisitions. From 1992 to 1996 Martin was with McKinsey&Co. Furthermore, he was member of the supervisory board of Tomorrow Focus AG from 2003 to 2015 and is currently on the board of Vinted.com.
Christian Teichmann joined Burda in 2015 and is Managing Director of Burda Principal Investments. Prior to joining Burda, he was at Solon Management Consulting for over ten years as Partner and Head of the London office. Christian focused on business building as well as growth and investment strategies in TMT industries. Before that, he worked for investment banks Lazard and Greenhill. Christian holds degrees in economics from Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid and ESB Reutlingen. Currently, he is on the supervisory boards of Showroom and Bloom & Wild and a board observer at BaubleBar and NotOntheHighStreet.
Benita Merz joined Burda in 2016 and is an Investment Manager of Burda Principal Investments. She joined from Deutsche Bank, where she has worked for four years within the investment banking / M&A teams in Frankfurt and London. During her time at Deutsche Bank, Benita has worked with corporate clients, institutional investors and private equity funds on M&A and capital market transactions within a broad range of industries. Benita studied at University of Mannheim (Business), Stockholm School of Economics, HEC Paris and Columbia University of New York (Management and Finance).
Peter Kennedy joined Burda Asia in 1998, where he was tasked with developing the company’s various businesses in Asia. He is currently Senior Adviser to Burda Principal Investments. Previously, Peter developed and oversaw joint ventures in Taiwan with SPH, Indonesia with the Alisjahbana family, and Korea with Design House Inc. He was also closely involved in the set up of a print joint venture with the Hindustan Times Group in Delhi and helped to acquire one of the regions most successful luxury publishing companies, Prestige. In the digital space, he has worked on the company’s investment into contextual advertising in Korea and most recently in the investment into Vietnam’s leading browser based search business, CocCoc. Prior to joining Burda, Peter worked in New York for the Economist, where he developed the magazine’s US market penetration strategy, now its largest market, and for Scientific American. He has extensive Asian business experience in Japan, Korea, China, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong. Peter received his BA in business studies from the City of London University and served in the Special Air Service (SAS) while in the UK military.
Albert joined Burda in 2017 and heads Burda Principal Investments' Singapore office. Previously he was at GREE Ventures from 2014 to 2017, where he led the fund's investment team in Southeast Asia and India as Principal while working closely with many of its portfolio companies including Kudo, Berrybenka, and Bukalapak. Prior to this, he served as a Director at Lazada Group, Southeast Asia’s largest ecommerce retailer, helping build the company’s Marketplace business across the region. Other professional experience includes co-founding an online menswear company in the US called AlbertMing Inc. and spending 5 years as a consultant at Monitor Group across the US and Asia. He completed his MBA at the University of California, Berkeley and studied at the University of Pennsylvania with dual degrees in economics and systems engineering. He currently sits on the board of Priceza.
Yuan Lee Chung joined Burda in 2015 and is an Investment Manager. Previously, she was at Capital Group and UBS where she worked for seven years in asset management and private banking in Singapore. Yuan Lee has worked with leading sovereign wealth funds, pension funds and private wealth clients in managing their portfolio of investments across multiple asset classes. Before that, she supported senior management teams in strategy development and implementation, risk management and project management. Yuan Lee completed her MBA at HKUST and Columbia Business School and holds a B.Eng in Electrical Engineering from the National University of Singapore.
Manolo joined Burda in 2017 as a Senior Adviser focused on US and Canada-based investments. Previously he was Vice President at SoundCloud for five years, leading their San Francisco office. His responsibilities extended to global partnerships, developer relations and leading investment into more diversified expansion. Manolo also co-founded Indextank, a leader in cloud-based search solutions acquired by Linkedin. His work has focused on consumer startups since 1997, including roles in strategy, growth marketing, product, and corporate development. Earlier, Manolo was a management consultant in the financial services industry in Latin America, Europe and the US. He holds degrees from Amherst College and Harvard University.
Natalie joined Burda in 2017 and is an Investment Manager of Burda Principal Investments in London. Previously, she was the CFO of a technology start-up company focused on natural language processing in New York City. Prior to that, she worked in the investment banking / M&A teams at J.P. Morgan in London. Natalie studied at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management (Business) and completed her MBA at Harvard Business School.
